Reflecting on way finding with augmented reality

When I completed my project, ‘You Are Here,’ I created wayfinding for the LBU art and design building. I wanted to capture what happens within the building as well as the vibe of the exterior using typography. I feel this was done to a good standard. However, upon reflection, I realise this project could be enhanced with the use of augmented reality. Placing the project into a virtual environment would make the signage more interactive and possibly easier to follow.

Incorporating AR into the project would enhance the outcomes and push it past two-dimensional limitations. The places within the zine could come to life and guide the user towards their desired destination. This would create a more interactive and engaging experience as they are able to have freedom of where to go but with the support of directions. Further delving into AR, the typography on the side of the building could also transform into a 3D sculpture in a physical space, possibly outside the building. Each letter could be moveable in any direction, allowing for an immersive and creative experience for the viewer. By using AR the project is transformed from a 2D printed format into an interactive tool. This would create ease and independence for the viewer, allowing them to navigate their way around.

Rethinking and reflecting on how AI and AR could have influenced this project opens a new pathway of design choices for future projects. The use of AR softwares such as Cinema 4D and Adobe Aero will not only broaden my skills but also allow projects to keep up with emerging technologies.
