5.2 Process Document

Understanding the Technological Landscape

Technology in design is essential, most of the things we do now would not be possible without technologies such as adobe. Throughout this module I have learnt about many other technologies that can be used when designing and to help me in my design process. I have discovered better more effective ways of organising the tasks I have to do by using software such as Trello.

Week 3 - My Workflow
What my workflow looks like: * Step 1 - interpreting the brief * Step 2 - initial research * Step 3 - brainstorming ideas * Step 4 - trying out initial design ideas * Step 5 - Further, more in-depth research * Step 6 - trying out more designs * Step 7 - experimentation with different design
Week 2 - How AR could have been integrated into the process of my 4.1 project
Reflecting on the first project I did in my first year of studying graphic design, where I designed new wayfinding for the Leeds school of arts, I can see how effective it would have been to incorporate augmented reality (AR) as part of my project. My original concept was to

Experimentation and Process

During this module, I have experimented with a variety of tools and technologies, including NotionTrelloProcessingARAdobe AeroCinema 4DAnimation, and Photoshop. Each of these tools has significantly contributed to my understanding of design and how it can be approached from different perspectives.

For instance, Notion and Trello have been invaluable in organising my workflow and managing projects, helping me structure and plan my design process.

Exploring Processing allowed me to experiment with creative coding, opening my eyes to the intersection of art and technology and how algorithms can influence visual outcomes.

Augmented Reality (AR) and Adobe Aero provided insights into designing interactive and spatial experiences, emphasising how digital layers can transform physical spaces. Similarly, working with Cinema 4D expanded my understanding of 3D modelling and animation, allowing me to visualise concepts in dynamic ways.

Finally, using Photoshop and experimenting with animation made me realise how I can use these tools to create designs and I don't have to stick to still designs, I can incorporate moving aspects further engaging with my audiences.

These experiments collectively deepened my appreciation for how tools can influence the design process and reinforced the value of flexibility and curiosity when exploring new methods.

Photoshop & Animation
In the session I did with John using the Wacom pads to create an animation I really enjoyed it and would defiantly try this in my own time and in future projects. it was refreshing to draw something myself and see it come to life. In this session I learnt
4D Cell Animation
Overall I enjoyed using cinema 4D and I can see how this technology is extremely important. However, I wouldn’t know how to use it without the step by steps with John. It is a very complex software and I would need to spend a lot more time getting to know
Week 3 - Processing, 100 Posters
0:00 /0:15 1× This task was probably my favourite within the module, I really enjoyed learning how coding worked and found the results very rewarding. When using processing, as I had no idea how to code or how it worked, I often used chatGPT to help me with
Week 2 - AR Intervention
For this project I really liked the idea of overlaying old photographs onto a location to show what they looked like in the past. My immediate idea was to use the location Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester. The gardens in the present day are known for being dirty, dangerous and all

Engaging with Emerging Technologies

Through this module I have learnt how to use AI such as chatGPT in the right way, I learnt to use it as a sort of collaborative getting it to teach me how to use certain technologies such as processing. I have also used it to help me with conveying my ideas in an effective way as I usually struggle with this as I am dyslexic. As the use of AI is usually frowned upon, especially in university, I was very cautious in the way I used it as I could be penalised by using it incorrectly. This is definalty a caution to take when using it.

AR has shown me the possibilities of showcasing my work and allowing me to visulze my designs in the real world. I can see how it will be very useful in future projects. I do still need to get more familiar with this technology as I don't fully understand all the tools it has to offer but by working with it more in the future I will defiantly be bale to navigate it more effectively.

Intentions and Future Directions

I plan to delve deeper into tools such as ProcessingCinema 4D, and Adobe Aero, as they have already shown great potential for combining creativity and technology. I aim to expand my skills in coding through Processing, as it offers opportunities to create interactive, generative designs, pushing the boundaries of traditional aesthetics. Similarly, I intend to further explore AR using Adobe Aero, particularly to experiment with storytelling in physical spaces and creating immersive user experiences.

I see significant opportunities to innovate in AR and creative coding, particularly in designing user-centered experiences that are both meaningful and accessible. For instance, leveraging AR to overlay digital narratives onto real-world objects or spaces can redefine how people interact with the environment. Additionally, coding can help me develop unique visual systems or tools tailored to specific design challenges.

Reflection and Summary

This year, I’ve learned that technology’s value in design lies in how it enhances creativity. Tools like ProcessingAdobe Aero, and Cinema 4D have expanded my ability to create interactive, engaging work, while also teaching me to approach technology as a flexible, exploratory tool rather than a fixed solution.

This will guide my future projects, encouraging me to use technology thoughtfully to transform spaces, experiences, and narratives while staying adaptable and critically engaged.

I have also enjoyed using Leeds.graphics, I find it a very efficient way to document my process and I love the collaborative aspect of it as well. Being able to see what my classmates are looking, creating and more. I would love to continue using it in the future.

Week 5 - Brutalist Websites
Personally, I love brutalist design as I find it visually engaging. I enjoy the simplistic layouts with a raw eye-catching visual design. Dapp Boi The website is easy to use, I like the use of colour and I think the use of different typefaces in the text makes the design
Week 4 - 6x6 Brief, The Story Bench
Concept A bench is an object usually overlooked, I have come across benches that try to encourage fellow strangers to connect with one another when sat on it, however the bench will have one sign on it saying “buddy bench”. there is one in the park near my house and
