week 3 - workflow

seminar

I found this week's seminar to be particularly interesting. I often approach my workload without a clear structure, simply "winging it" and only working when motivation strikes. This lack of organization has prevented me from performing at my best. The seminar offered valuable insights on how to improve my workflow in the future and introduced various apps and tools that can help facilitate this change.

Processing Code workshop

Before this workshop, I wouldn't have dared to touch coding with a ten-foot pole, as I had seen it complicated and unattractive. however, going into this workshop excited me, as I enjoy exploring new avenues. Learning how to create randomised posters using code thrilled me, as it presented a new way to design, and I found it very interesting how you can turn lines of text into images and animations.

Experimental cover design

Although I was excited by the workshop, I hesitated to start the brief for designing a cover using code because I knew it would require a significant amount of time. However, I set aside some time to work on it and began exploring the resources provided. The weight of programming lifted off my shoulders when I discovered that much of the code was already preset. I particularly enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of coding, as each time I added text or changed colour, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I spent around three hours going back and forth between the source code provided, searching online to make adjustments, and figuring out how to integrate these changes with the existing code. Ultimately, I created something simple, but I felt a strong sense of achievement something entirely new to design.
