Neurodiversity

For this project, we were asked to create a campaign to help raise awareness about neurodiversity in public spaces and to really carefully consider who we wanted to target and mostly who we would benefit the most. We chose to begin a campaign to raise awareness about neurodiversity issues in public spaces, focussing on the challenges that neurodivergent people face, particularly dyslexia. We targeted public space managers, educators, and business owners as our primary audience because they play an important role in creating accessible environments. Dyslexia can make simple tasks like reading menus, signs, and informational materials more difficult.

To address this, our campaign highlights the importance of providing accessible tools like coloured overlays, which can help many people with dyslexia read text more easily. We advocate for overlays to be widely available in public spaces such as restaurants, libraries, and community centres, as well as in schools. To draw attention to this responsibility, we created a series of interactive installations with large hanging overlays. These installations allow the public to directly experience the benefits of overlays while also raising awareness about the small but significant changes that can make public spaces more inclusive. Our campaign aims to foster greater understanding and action towards neurodivergent inclusivity by engaging the community and showcasing practical solutions.
