Workshop: Motion Graphics – Jitter

Date: 11/11/25

In this session we explored Jitter, which is an online motion tool that links with Figma. The goal was to try a different type of motion software and see how we like it. for me I was actively comparing it to After Effects and thinking about if it something that would fit into my process. We played around with the interface, tested out some presets, and tried building small animations directly in the browser.

I understood how the tool worked and what it was trying to do, but to be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan. It felt a bit childish and way too limiting compared to After Effects. The features were very basic and the amount of control you have is nowhere near what I’m used to in Adobe apps. You can definitely make stuff quickly, but it didn’t feel like something I would use in my own practice.

What I did take away from the workshop was a better understanding of what I personally look for in software. I realised that I prefer tools like Photoshop, After Effects, and the whole Adobe suite because the possibilities feel endless. There are so many ways to create different outcomes and push your ideas. That kind of flexibility suits my creativity a lot more.

Even though I didn’t like Jitter, it was still useful to try it. Part of this module is figuring out how different technologies shape the way we design, and this session helped me understand my own preferences and the type of workflow I want to build.
