Workflow

Workflow

Current workflow

My workflow is quite chaotic. I wouldn't say I have a set routine; I often procrastinate and leave things until the last moment, relying on deadlines as motivation to complete tasks. Once I have the motivation I can sit down and disconnect from my environment relatively easily, most of the time I start researching I end up down a rabbit hole of unrelated subjects. I don't set myself up in the right environment, I set myself up in my room and because I have decorated my room with different lights, posters and technologies there are so many cues in my room to distract me that it's hard to concentrate.

Creating a better workflow

After attending the seminar on workflows, I decided to buy Atomic Habits by James Clear. I have only read a small portion of this book but it has already given me a great insight into how to change my behaviour and create habits for a better workflow. To begin with I need to create more of a structure to my week. A good place to start this is by creating a list of things that need to be done and giving them a time and a place to be done, an automatic calendar would be handy when it comes to creating the time of things that should happen. When it comes to distractions my mobile phone is possibly the biggest distraction I have when doing work so if I physically remove my phone from the environment I'm trying to work in. Another thing is my motivation if I set my deadlines for small parts of projects to add up to the final result I will get things done sooner so I can have enough time to re-visit and improve upon work before a deadline.
