Looking at my design process and ways I can improve, smoothen and make my workflow easier.

flow chart explaining my workflow

I almost always start my process on paper, I start jotting down ideas from the moment a brief and any information is given. I then brainstorm some ideas and create a mind map to organise my brain. I usually create a Pinterest board and start gathering inspiration, using my physical notebook and Pinterest overlap and go back and forward contributing to each other.

  • my issue with this method is I struggle not having all my thoughts in one place as I jump between the different mediums which often stunts my ideas. However, I'm not willing to go fully digital as I really benefit from and like physically writing.
  • My research often doesn't go past collecting images on Pinterest boards, While good for initial ideas to move my design process forward I need to do more in-depth research.

My solution to these problems is to use Figma. Specifically the figjam mode which is made for brainstorming and organising ideas. My brain and the way I work is a lot like a mind map, through connections. So creating large organised mindmaps with ideas, references, sources, and research all together with connections to help me process what I'm thinking should work really well for me. It's also very easy to upload straight from my phone any pictures I have of physical inspiration and my written ideas. I have already started to use Figma this way, as can be seen in my visual framework

Visual Framework
We were tasked to create a visual framework which would be an open-ended resource of links materials and references for our final process document. We had to choose 2 of John Maeda’s 10 laws of simplicity and expand from there. The 2 laws I chose were, difference and time. I

My second issue has a simpler solution, I just need to expand where I get my inspiration from. So finding more resources and websites; I have already found a few I can share here but this should be ever-expanding, constantly looking and finding more.
