Title Screen Progress and Processes
Continuing on in our motion classes we started to like into the title screens and designs in television and motion picture. Movie title screens are the initial text and graphics displayed at the beginning of a film, following studio logos, that introduce the movie. Important aspects of a title screen include typography, colour scheme, and animation; all are key factors into setting the scene for a film. Examples of memorable title screens:
- The Pink Panther
- Se7en
- Superman
- Catch Me If You Can
- Dr. No
- Napoleon Dynamite
- Fight Club
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
- The Shining
- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
In the early days of cinema, the title screen was usually viewed within the first few frames of the movie, appearing after the studio logo. However, in recent years, the title screens have become increasingly difficult to locate - they can be hidden anywhere within the film's first 10-15 minutes, or they can come at the end of the film. Title screens as we know it have adapted how we view film/ television significantly; we have become more involved in those movies from an emotional standpoint due to this. It's about involving the audience!!
Below is my title screen from the tutorial and I did have a lot of fun with it; I'm happy with how it turned out. I like the ending the most as it gives an ominous feel to it along with the simplicity of the title. I think that it could've been developed more. There are parts that I dislike and parts that I love; for example the zoom in of the text into the silhouette. It's slightly off when the grey takes over the man and I've tried to fix it but it hasn't proven successful.
I then made my own title sequence based on some of my own sketches and written stories that I don't often shed light to. All of the videos and sounds are sourced from royalty free sites that are linked below:

The making of my own title sequence itself has a rather dark feel to it; I added multiple different videos to try and show the story without telling too much. I did a lot of colour correcting and tinting on each of the videos; it's all been changed to greyscale and has added noise. I took inspiration from some of the title sequences that are listed above as well as some others of a similar genre as well as that I also took inspiration from music I have been listening to recently. The story itself takes place in the 1970's in southern America; Louisiana. All and all it's just a random horror story plot that I happen to have had. I think it needs a lot more work but for a short few seconds it gets the point across. I did really like doing it and mapping out my ideas for it.
