Reflective Exploration of Emerging Technologies

From last year's module 4.4.3 Re:Branding I think that the project of creating branding for the old hoist tower in my square would work quite well with new technologies as it could really push the abilities of my project into a whole new level. I think that augmented reality and virtual reality could have been used to create a version of the inside of the hoist tower that a user could navigate that shows off what the hoist tower used to be like back in the day. My project was about creating branding for the mini museum and exhibition space that the old lift tower is being transformed into and one of my aims was to show users of the space the history and heritage of the tower so using these new technologies to show this off to users in another way would have been really helpful.

Augmented reality is defined as a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view; this helps to add a new perspective into basically anything that can be created, adjusted or recreated with this new technology.  This would have completely altered the outcome of my rebranding project from 4.4 as it would have allowed the users of the space to enter into the same space but in the 1850’s when it was active to show off its rich heritage that I was working on displaying through my branding I created.

This new technology could have a really big impact on my future work throughout modules from levels five and six as it was not something I had even considered looking at using. It can be used for so many different outcomes and projects to push them to a new level that hadn’t been considered when originally and altering the thought process of both user and designer.
