Week Two: Innovations
The project I am reflecting on is my book cover from the module 4.2 as I believe that using a wider range of technologies could have improved my design. At the time I used techniques that were new to me, such as riso print, however over the course I have been introduced to more advanced technologies that could have been applied to my project.
If I were to go back to this project I would have added AR (Augmented Reality) through the use of glasses to view the book differently. I would use AR glasses instead of an app to be downloaded on a device, as glasses would make it easier to manage the book. The title of my book cover is a quote that was said by Emma Watson, when looking through the glasses I would have the bold words come out the cover and Emma Watson saying her quote as the user is reading. Throughout each page of the book would be a small animation in relation to what's being said, whilst still being able to read each page. For example, the female figure on the front cover could come to life when looking at that particular page with the AR glasses.
Not only would this create a new perspective on the book but it could also help people with dyslexia by using technology to speak aloud what's written on the page. Being able to listen to text makes it possible for people with dyslexia to focus and understand what they're reading. Another benefit is that it could allow readers to access additional information and animations to give them a better understanding of the story being told.
This reflection will influence my approach to future projects now I have a better understanding of a broader range of technologies. I am intrigued in the emerging tools and methods that I can incorporate into my design practices from now on.
