Mini Brief 5.2.4

Explore a narrative through interaction:

Create a project that tells a story or conveys a narrative through interaction. Consider how your audience engages with the work and what their participation reveals.

  • Immersive 3D Environments Virtual spaces or scenes that transport the audience into a different world, allowing for exploration or storytelling in three dimensions. - this will be the main outcome

Data Visualisation Designs that present information, data, or patterns in a way that is visually engaging and allows for exploration or interaction.

Interactive Physical Objects Tangible creations that respond to touch, movement, or environmental factors, encouraging hands-on engagement.

Themes

Movement, Sound, music, art installation light

  • Takes audience on a journey or adventure
  • make objects virtual that are interactive
  • installation that reveals

Look at a element of history or sci-fi

Be inspired by a segment or extract from a book

Objects that respond to sound or movement

Narrative based off a world building, game and options in the installation that has different pathways that lead to different scenarios through choice, bright colours almost like you are transported in an animated film

Narrative of the story through a flowchart:

Video is an example of when in the dark tunnel part of the exhibition how light could interact with the audience.

This is an initial concept sketch of one of the spaces in the installation. This could potentially used for the projections in the space. If I was to develop this further I would explore more with cinema 4D.

Reflection:

I liked exploring ideas for this mini brief, I was going to have one of the keys created in blender and after trying to create one I was unable to create a successful design, however even though I struggled a bit with after effects I felt I have developed this skill more in this project. I ended simplifying the narrative due to time constraints and went with the players have two options of which journey they wanted to go on. For the final outcome I ended focusing on the Immersive 3D Environments Virtual spaces or scenes that transport the audience into a different world, allowing for exploration or storytelling in three dimensions. The installation in a space makes this three dimensional.

First concept of fantasy key

Experimenting the colours for the main part of the key. I though these complemented the gold well and had a fantasy feel.

Finalised version of the key for the fantasy/sci-fi pathway. I ended up focusing on imagery from space to incorporate on the key.

Here are some examples of the type of installation spaces that would be used for the interactive installation:

Mood Board of what different places in the installation would look like and have elements from.

2 Different versions of the gateways, modelled in blender.

Initial layout of the installation of where each landscape will be and connecting each one will be a gateway.

The narrative:

2 Keys are hidden and once found after completing a few tasks they will unlock a prize. This focuses more on the audience going on a journey to find something and entering many different landscapes and worlds.

Reflection:

I found this mini brief fun as well as challenging. The most challenging part was bringing the 3D aspects to life and modelling as well as using after effects and exploring different ideas. This could also be turned into a VR game and normal online game as well as it being a installation.
