Drawing Tablet Animation

Drawing Tablet Animation

In this workshop we used drawing tablets to illustrate an animation frame by frame using photoshop timeline. While I have had some experience in stop-motion animation by editing a magazine poster cover and making it move, my experience in illustration is not very deep. I consider myself a pretty poor drawer and consider it as something I need to improve on and practice. However for this task the cleanliness or detail of work was not a main focus.

I found this workshop very very fun despite the tediousness of re-drawing each frame. The drawing tablets were quick and easy to get used to and allowed us a huge amount of options regarding colours and brushes, along with a touch sensitive screen that allowed for thicker or thinner lines to be drawn with ease. This style of animation allows for interesting outcomes that are pushed by little altering details between frames. While this one I created is basic, those with more time put into them and attention to detail are of high quality and allow for interesting outcomes.

The Wacom tablet also allows for ease of drawing over photos or videos. These drawings can then be applied over the video and have some magnificent results. This type of editing can be seen lots in music videos for example. With the tablet itself being around £100 and somewhat affordable this technology is a great alternative for physical sketching and bridges the gap between digital art and hand drawn illustrations, allowing them to be combined with ease. In conclusion I would like to experiment with this technology further, however I would like to improve my drawing skills first.
