Animation Workshop
Theme: Photoshop Animation / Frame-by-Frame / Drawing Tablet Skills
The animation workshop was a really interesting one. We focused on how animations are created in Photoshop using the timeline feature, and we also worked with drawing tablets. We experimented with making simple animations and getting used to the feel of drawing digitally, which was more challenging than I expected.
Animation is a style I can appreciate, but I don’t think it fits naturally into my own design process. I’ve never been too fond of drawing, and it’s not something that sits within my style, so the workflow felt different to what I’m used to. But even with that, walking through the whole process helped me understand how frame-by-frame animation actually works, and it opened my eyes to new ways of creating.
We also looked at short films and game animations, breaking down how they were put together. That helped me understand timing, motion, layering and how animators build narratives visually. Even though animation isn’t something I’ll probably use often, it was still valuable to see how it’s constructed and what techniques go into it.
Overall, the workshop gave me a deeper appreciation for animation and the amount of work involved. It showed me that even if something isn’t part of my personal style, it can still influence how I think about movement and storytelling in my own projects.
