A VISUAL FRAMEWORK

A VISUAL FRAMEWORK

In the first week, we looked at John Maeda's Laws of Simplicity and were asked to pick two that reflect our views on technology to create a visual framework. I chose Difference and Emotion because they resonate with me the most. I like when technology includes shortcuts and features that make tasks quicker and easier. I also enjoy when there’s an emotional connection, like personalisation, as it makes using the technology more fun and engaging.

Two laws I like the most
Moodboard

I created this mood board to explore and visually interpret the two laws I selected—Difference and Emotion. The goal was to convey the essence of these principles through imagery, highlighting how they connect to my views and creative process. By curating a mix of abstract visuals, emotional expressions, and conceptual designs, I wanted to immerse myself in the feelings and contrasts these laws represent.

Difference emphasises the balance between simplicity and complexity, which I showcased using visuals that blend contrasting shapes and ideas. On the other hand, Emotion captures how design resonates with people on a personal level. The images I chose include vibrant colours and expressive icons, reflecting the power of emotions in creating meaningful connections.

This exercise helped me feel the essence of these laws rather than just understand them conceptually. It’s a reminder that design is not just about functionality but also about creating experiences that engage and inspire.
