6x6

Amplify the overlooked- Digital Fabrication.

For the 6x6 brief, I chose to focus on amplifying the overlooked. My initial thoughts were how I wanted to relate this to the data visualisation outcome however after writing up some notes and exploring potential options within letterpress, I realised that my ideas better suited the digital fabrication outcome with a combination of physical and digital techniques.

My poster series focuses on technological noises that go unnoticed and overlooked as sounds such as notification pings and keyboard taps are something we hear almost everyday. I wanted to visually represent these sounds typographically through letterpress. Above are images of my process in printmaking showing a few small notes I made about the layout and details I wanted to include such as how words would be formed for example the 'ping' of a text which gradually fades out of visibility representing the drone as the noise fades away.

These are my outcomes after I placed them in photoshop and edited them to give a rich radiant colour. These outcomes I had were fun however didn't feel like they fit my ideas of what I wanted them to look like in a sense that there wasn't much of a physical and digital combination. Following this, I took the images and placed them into InDesign to further edit and play around with how I could amplify the atmosphere of technological sounds.

These are my 3 final posters portraying an amplification of the overlooked in terms of technology, through digital fabrication. My personal favourite is the middle poster. I love the distorted effect created by overlapping the word corruption ontop of error making it look like it has glitched and crashed. The colours also reflect an erratic nature of the downsides of technology when files are lost or corrupt. The left side image is a repetition of the word 'beep' giving nods towards the constant sound of notifications and alerts people receive. The image on the right is a layered poster of the word 'ping' and a keyboard which is representative of social media and the rising role this is having in society and technology. This collection of images/ posters give significance to the sounds of tech and bring small noises into focus, drawing attention to something that is usually ignored.
