Week 4: Production

For this weeks task we were given 6 briefs and 6 outcomes, we had to pick one from each list and create an outcome. I decided to choose the first brief option which was to amplify the overlooked, and I chose the fourth outcome which was immersive 3D environments.

For my chosen brief I wanted to amplify the overlooked, I had to find something unnoticed or ignored that I could draw attention to. Nature was an idea that immediately came to mind. People spend more time in artificial environments, disconnected from natural spaces. Urban living can make it easy to forget about the natural world when you’re surrounded by tall buildings and very little nature. I thought that with the university being in a big city like Leeds, it would be interesting to highlight the lack of nature.

For my chosen outcome I had to create an immersive 3D environment. I decided to use Aero adobe as that was a technology we have previously explored throughout the module and I wanted to try it out again. My aim was to transport the audience to view their surroundings differently and to think about the lack of nature in our area being in a city. After designing this 3D environment on Aero adobe, I used the link to view the design myself through my phone, like how the audience would.

Although the outcome through the mobile app didn't appear exactly how I imagined, I still have explored new technology and I have a better understanding of the challenges and possibilities within augmented reality. I found it fun to experiment with as well as a valuable skill to develop, therefore I want to continue exploring Adobe Aero, possibly in different locations to create more accurate and realistic outcomes.
