5.2 process

This process document isn't going to be a standard one, during my time working on 5.2 i have learned a lot about my own process in designing from my peers and tutors and what I need to do in the future to help reach my goals for after university.

During this time I have experimented heavily using touch designer which is a program I was introduced to by my brother, he was aware of my interests in live visuals through my love of concerts and encouraged me to try learning it as it is something that i would be able to make a career out of, through learning the program it would also allow me to understand alot of the basic fundamentals of 3d and motion design as well through much experimentation.

When trying to explain my creative process to graham in our 1 on 1 session one thing was very clear, I didn't have a way of outlining my progression as well as documenting my process when creating, this is due to a constant state in which I focus on only the thing I am working on at the time rather than the process itself, producing outcomes however not showing how I had progressed or learned how to create these outcomes. Due to this although I have several outcomes that I am happy with I am limiting my ability to expand my knowledge through my past projects as well as future ones if I keep up the same habits.

To combat this I am going to start to find a process that works for myself, one of the ideas graham came up with was to use ai to support myself or even using a timer to take screenshots of my monitor when I am working within a piece of software, doing this would allow me to go back after a session to write up and explain the process being able to show what did and didn't work throughout my workflow.

When experimenting with different software such as blender touch designer and some of the web tools shown throughout I found myself constantly going back to 3d motion and touch designer, I feel that this is because it constantly challenges me, I enjoy the process of learning something new and creating dynamic and abstract designs rather than the traditional route of design such as the adobe suite, I also work better with motion as I engage better with this type of workflow.

In my future work I am going to continue my development of touch designer however at the same time i will start refining my knowledge of after effects, while also beginning to learn cinema 4d. I am going to use these pieces of software cohesively to reach my goal of live visuals as well as 3d motion design.

This project has allowed me to explore the things that I was previously interested in but didn't have the confidence to pursue kicking me out of my comfort zone whilst giving me something to work towards during my remaining time at university and in the future.

My goals to continue working on are my documentation of my design process better showing my process not just for myself but to help my piers learn as well as developing my skills in the software not just to have the knowledge but to create things that I am interested to be able to have a career doing what i love.
