I actually had a little experience in photoshop animation from college, however I used it for one project very briefly so I had forgotten everything. But, I have a simple grasp on hand drawn animation from personal projects in the past and found once I knew how to get the Photoshop animation to work that I could navigate it well.
I found I didn't like it too much, (since we had one workshop on this I'm not aware of all its capabilities) it was fiddly, each frame was confusing to animate since the layers all operated differently, some stayed the same across the whole animation and others didn't, and it was a bit annoying and confusing to figure out which did which and how to make them do vice versa. I got confused at the icons it displayed which would make you think one thing when it was actually another thing. It's not something I would use if I was going to animate something, however it keeps all the features of photoshop (which the exception of a few tools) and that can allow for detailed frames you might struggle to get with other applications unless you want to pay for the good ones.
