5.2 Final Submission

Below are links to all of my posts for this module. I missed the second week and a couple of workshops, so I didn't include those as I felt I wouldn't get the same experience with the technology demonstrated if I caught up at home rather than seeing it in person. I also have an overall reflection on my engagement with this module.

5.2.1 Initation

5.2.1 - Neurodiversity Campaign
Brief Create a campaign that raises awareness about neurodiversity in public spaces. Requirements Identifies a specific aspect of neurodiversity in public spaces to focus on. Considers who needs to hear this message. Proposes how and where the campaign would exist in the world. The brief was to create a campaign

For this task, we created a campaign that raises awareness about neurodiversity. I think this was a good starting point for the module as it gave me an understanding of what software and tools my mind initially goes to when I'm given a task.

5.2.3 Implementation

5.2.3 Implementation
Work -> Flow Part 1 1. What parts of your practice make you feel most engaged and creative? I find the most excitement in the process when I experiment with ideas and materials. I find enjoyment in research depending on what I’m researching, for example, I prefer visual to

During this week of the module, we reflected on our creative practice. I think this helped me acknowledge what I need to improve on in my process, for example, focusing less on my end outcome and focusing more on producing ideas and experimenting.

5.2.4 Automation

5.2.4 Automation
everywhere.toolsCollection of open-source tools for designers & creatives Everywhere Tools is a collection of useful sources for designers. I spent time exploring some of the options linked on there. It was interesting getting to experiment and create random things without the intention of producing something final. I think as a
5.2.4 Automation - Workshop
Processing In this workshop we used the processing app to create automatic pages with circles. I found the tutorial easy enough to follow but I had issues flagging up in my code that I couldn’t understand. If I were to try coding again I don’t think I’d be able to
5.2.4 Automation - Taken Further
Below is my exploration of technologies on Figma. I chose to do this after using Everywhere Tools. I wanted to experiment with technologies I’d used before, but hadn’t really gotten into. I used Figma in Level 4, and really enjoyed it, but Figma has a range of tools, some of
Interactive Websites
After looking at both motion design and everywhere tools, I decided to research interactive websites, and look into how web design and animation are used to draw in an audience. This website is where I got the list of interactive website examples and info about them, I looked at the
Creative Coding
After looking into coding in a workshop, I decided to do my own research into creative coding. I know very little about it, other than seeing it through this module and seeing figma make use it. I used this article for my research: 10 Creative Coding Examples That Are Redefining

During week 4, we explored coding, explored different websites and software, and I looked into things alone as well. I found coding really interesting and it is something I definitely want to do again, despite struggling with it. I think this week of the module was the most productive, most effective and most helpful week for me personally. It prompted me to explore technologies and show what I've explored independently and what interests me the most as a designer. I also utilised previous skills and tools in this week, and I think it was really important for me to do that and link everything together for this module.

5.2.5 Production

5.2.5 Production
Four by Six Task - System Expansion Take your branding guidelines from last year and expand their scope. Demonstrate how your brand identity works across multiple applications, contexts, or scenarios. Show the breadth of the system, not just its core elements. My brand guidelines: In this presentation I created, you

For production, we went back to a previous project and elevated it using what we learnt during this module. I went back to my branding from module 4.4. I used figma, something I'd previously used for this branding, but used a different sector of it, which I discovered during 5.2. It was interesting to go back to an old project with a different perspective on emerging technologies.

5.2 After Effects/Motion Workshops

After Effects/Motion Workshops
I didn’t attend all of the motion workshops, but for the ones I did attend I found them quite interesting and they were fun to do. However, I did feel that I stuggled a bit as at times, I found the tutorials a little difficult to follow, although if I

This is a post reflecting on all of Jon's workshops that I attended for 5.2. After Effects and anything to do with motion is something I've always avoided, but these workshops allowed me to find enjoyment with it and I think my overall engagement with these workshops was effective.

5.2.6 Distribution

Reflection

Technology plays a big part in my design process as I utilise it for planning, experimentation and finalising. Emerging technologies, such as AI, can be useful for prototyping and layouts and so on, but over-reliance borders on the idea that AI can replace graphic designers. Throughout this module, I've tried to maintain a healthy balance with it and understand how we can use it in a positive way.

I feel like I've really been influenced by some of the technologies shown to me in this module. My first workshop with Jon pushed me to purchase a wacom tablet, which I think will be useful to me in the future, and I also combined it with other technologies in this module, which is evidenced in my posts. I was really interested in processing and its something I would like to explore again. This module also pushed me to explore other technologies that hadn't been shown to us, which I did after 5.2.4, Automation.

Figma Make is a great example of how AI can be used in a positive way. I did an extensive exploration of it, which is shown in some of my posts. It allows you to prompt AI into making your prototypes. I think it helped me understand at what point you need to stop using AI and rely on your own initiative, for example, I continuously prompted it till I reached a point where I just needed to create a design myself as I wasn't happy with the outcome it gave me.

I think the technologies in this module have showed me that I wasn't exploring enough as a designer, I feel that I was going down a narrow path and I needed to utilise the software available to me more. I still don't really know what I want to do yet as a designer, but I feel that I think a lot more critically, and moving forward when I'm given a task I'll consider all the technologies available to me and if they fit into what I'm tasked with doing.

I feel like my overall engagement with this module has been really good, as I've immersed myself with the technologies shown to me, then explored further. If I was to do the module again, I would give myself more time and try and find even more new technologies and software to experiment with, as I know now that there is so much out there. I'd also like to try and have a more positive mindset going forward, as when I struggled with certain software, such as After Effects, I was too eager to give up on learning it. The reflective process for this module has worked really well for me too, creating a process document through blog posts was really fun, in comparison to using Indesign, as sometimes I can find it quite repetitive and tedious. I know that missing some sessions probably did effect my engagement slightly, but I know that I did my best to make up for that, and I still feel like this module has really been helpful for me.
