During my first year of University, I created a book cover that reflected on my chosen Ism, Futurism. I used geometric shapes, numbers, experimental colours and symmetry to highlight the theme of my book, Reconstructing the Universe.
If I were given this brief again or able to develop my idea further, I would have integrated a form of VR to give the audience a form of connection towards the artwork created for the front cover. Almost as if they were inside the book and transforming them physically and emotionally.
How would the inclusion of VR have changed the project?
Bringing VR into the project would have transformed the book from not just being something people are able to read but also an experience that would change people's perspective.
My idea would be to have the shapes and numbers that are in the artwork cover life-size, and the VR create a space where you can explore, making the shapes almost like they were buildings you would walk around. By adding VR, people who may have never thought to read that type of book or pick it up can show new readers how the book can make you feel by physically showing them.
What would have been different about the outcome?
Adding VR to the experience of the book makes it stand out against the other available books, it would help people visualise the possibilities, especially if they don't have what people call a "creative mind". It can also create an interactive space where people can feel relaxed and clear their minds before they start reading.
How this Reflection Will Influence My Future Projects
Reflecting on how VR can completely change a project and help develop an idea further makes me ambitious and broadens my ability to create with little to no limitations when thinking about the different possibilities.
The world is constantly changing, I feel it is important not just for my University course and my career but also for my life to make sure that I'm keeping up to date with the new technologies that come along and to develop with the world around me.
