5.2.2 An Augmented Reality Intervention

Using skills learnt in the AR workshop, we created a site-specific AR project that interacts with and comments on the environment in the city. We used inspiration from the 5.2.1 campaign project, Raising Neurodiversity Awareness in Public Spaces. The location is Millennium square, we thought this would be a good area as it is central, with a lot of people crossing through every day The contrast of the more modern sans-serif typeface next to the more traditional old buildings would also be interesting as it reflects the changing world and recent recognition of Neurodiversity, which has been overlooked for many years.

The idea of the AR project is that the letters move in a way that makes it harder to read, similar to what dyslexic people go through with day to day tasks. The 'Y' bounces', 'E' spins, 'I' turns on an anchor point. This work creates a big statement in the middle of the city .

Overall, I like the overall concept of the design as it is a good way to start conversations about people who are neurodiverse. If I were to go back I would've liked to create more confusion with the letters, making it more overwhelming for viewers without dyslexia so that they can really get a sense of what it's like and impel them to help make change when it comes to helping dyslexic people in day to day life, from restaurant menus to signage and more.
