Our Campaign objective is to raise awareness for dyslexia, and display the challenges they face.
We came to this idea by initially discussing the fact we wanted it to be interactive as that would appeal to the neurodivergent audiences. We also thought about including famous people who have dyslexia in the campaign, this would give dyslexic people an example that you can still succeed and how being neurodivegent can be a gift. In initial research we found an umbrella installation ( The neurodiversity umbrella project- Watford town centre), the use of colour reflected how colourful the mind is and its complexities.
Our final idea we chose was incorporating how some dyslexic people use different coloured overlays in order to help them read.
Inspired by Canary Wharf, Summer Lights in 2021, we liked the idea of using sheets of coloured glass or acrylic facing a digital board of text, making an interactive way for people to see what colour helps them read best while also raising awareness for the lack of assistance in everyday life for people with dyslexia. The target audience for the project is dyslexic people so they can text what colour suits them best, Passers by who can possibly self diagnose themself by seeing if the different coulours effect how they read, and schools and catering businesses who need to encouporate useful tools for dyslecic people in their businesses. The campaign would be in Millenium Square, Leeds as the the square forms the heart of an emergent civic quarter, with cultural, leisure and residential uses. Overall a good place to target a vast amount of people from different walks of life.
After deciding to do a digital board we thought more into the different technologies we could use. By adding a QR code on the back of the board it could have a link to a charity page for putting coloured overlays in schools and businesses. By donating it would then allow you to type a message onto the screen, this makes the intilation even more intaractive, giving it more attention which is better for reaching a larger audience.
