5.1 New Technologies Reflection Exploration of Emerging Technologies

5.1 New Technologies Reflection Exploration of Emerging Technologies

When creating my 5.1 Typography Module, I had used a type specimen based on the Prangram Prangram typeface which was Right Serif. I had looked at different layouts and created a booklet about the typeface and how that would integrate into the design which I had used InDesign to create it.

From reviewing and looking at the different technologies throughout the seminar, I had found that from these new technologies, I could make a big improvement and develop me design. One example to improve my project is motion graphics such as Ting-An Ho who created the ‘Motion Type Project’, a motion graphics project based on Chinese characters. This designer shows symbols and lettering in a motion and movement. Motion graphics plays an significant part in visual storytelling and this idea would've made my design more visually unique and would be able to convey emotions from the lettering, highlighting key characteristics from the typeface elements. From this example, it has shown me a new view and ideas to include more motion to my designs.

Another example is Jocelyn Zhao who created the TextLoom which is an interactive workpiece. It was an immersive experience that brought in people to type their own words using her programming and would be projected onto a large scale text loom. This demonstrated the practical element in which I wanted my design to feel when opening the pages as I heavily liked the interactive element, however, as she had done her design in such a large scale, it wouldn't of invoked more of the elements that I wanted to be highlighted.

The Fabric Museum has recently unveiled a new brand identity crafted by Jocelyn Zhao, a New York-based graphic designer currently working at Google Creative Lab.

Lastly is Michael Connolly who designed Elementals which is an inspired by physical printmaking techniques and early Bauhaus principles, starting with a few basic coloured shapes and arranges them in varying frequencies, sizes, and positions. Multiple overlaid variable grids allow for myriad layouts and opportunities for colour interaction which would've inspired my design layout by adding a new composition style, layering and making the project look unique.

Firstly, this is long and rambling. Apologies for that. There is a more concise project page here , but below I’m going to go into detail about this project. On chain generative stuff is pretty new and has huge potential I feel for the wider world getting to grips with the wonders of code based art

Overall, from learning from these unique and different technologies and styles, it had made me more aware and shown me a novel of inclusion I would never think to include such as Motion graphics, Interactive and layering compositions.

Graphic design connects human history: with cave paintings to digital modern-day designs as every individual has an innate want and an innate need to show other humans things that they’ve experienced.
