When reviewing the work that I did last year, there were a few different elements in different projects that I thought I could work well with some of the more advanced technology we have been covering recently, but I ultimately decided that the first project we ever did would be good to reflect on.
I thought that the wayfinding exercise we did right back at the beginning of 4.1 would be really interesting if I used some newer technology. Originally, I went for a more unorthodox approach to this task, using an op-art style text spread largely over the inside of the broadcasting building. It was very large and spread across the entire stairwell and so I thought having an interactive projection that changes the type itself as you walk past it.
This is not the newest of technology however it is far more advanced than what I had used previously. I remember my old local McDonalds used to have an interactive game that was projected onto the floor, and you used your feet to play, but the technology has come a long way since then, but it is something which has always been interesting to me.
Because the type itself is very free flowing in random direction, I think this idea would work perfectly, having the waves go up and down as you walk across it. There would probably have to be a few different projectors, or a fancy 360 one to have it wrap around the stairwell. I think this is a great idea and is an effective way to showcase technology, the words I used were quite random as well so maybe the words themselves could be on some sort of timer and flicks through a selection.
I think this could be a creative way to incorporate fresh technology to a previous design in a very simple way. Interactive projections will add a whole different dimension to the work and the font itself will feel more relevant and interesting, because the op-art style feels a little irrelevant now.
