Thinking back on previous projects I have done, 4.1 sticks out to me as a project that could have been taken further than just using the one piece of software I did use—blender. Using Blender was a challenge as it took a lot of time to get to grips with, and the start of first year was the first time I had ever used software for graphics design, so my knowledge of other softwares was limited. Since the outcome was a 3D model, it would be interesting to take it into AR, so that you could see the model in real space and its real size, and how it looks from different angles.
Using AR would have meant I could create a ‘real life’ mockup, rather than just trying to use photoshop to create a 2D mockup of a 3D object, it makes sense that a 3D object should be displayed in a (at least virtual) 3D space. It would also mean that the audience can interact with the model in real time, rather than just staring at it through a screen, not being able to get the full effect of how it was made and what it looks like rendered on the 3D software. Using VR would have also been quite interesting as it would immerse the user into the infinite 3D space, and would allow them to virtually touch and play with the model, and see how the interactions change the perception of the prototype.
After reflecting about the use of different technologies, I will definitely think about more interesting ways to showcase and take my projects further by using the different technologies we have been experimenting with, and how the perception of them changes when the environment in which they are shown changes. I would definitely like to explore taking a 2D outcome and turning it into a 3D project using modelling or showcasing it in an alternate reality.
