5.2 Animation
Animating in Photoshop

Frame by frame animation of a cat running. As tedious as it is, I really enjoy doing hand drawn animation in Photoshop. I’ve always enjoyed stop motion animation and this is something I want to carry on doing in my practice later. I made another of these with a raven, hoping to maybe add some animated type to it as well. I like that this technique has a really handcrafted look to it (not at all because of the charcoal brush pack I have and love).
AfterEffects
I hate aftereffects. Probably a bit harsh but I know I need more practice with it. However, I do find some of its tools useful like rotoscoping and being able to animate individual objects and use motion tracking. I know that with more practice I might hate it a bit less but I think this is also my slight bias towards analogue methods of animation coming through. One day, I’m sure I’ll get it.
Jitter
This was fun! I can see how limited it is, but I like how simple it is to use alongside figma. I think this would be useful in making quick pieces for a social media post. I think its simplicity makes me like it a lot more than something that requires a lot of attention that my ADHD self isn’t great at having, like aftereffects. Like I said, maybe one day.
Title sequences
I looked at a lot of title sequences on art of the title. I found that I was drawn to a lot of the mixed media titles. The ones from Deutschland 83/86/89 really spoke to me. Part of this was because of my special interest in the DDR but I have always been drawn to mixed media. I used this interest in mixed media to start making a title sequence based off some pictures from a house party. I have even braved using aftereffects to make bits of this. I also have carried on from my 4.4 work of printing a million elements to photograph and scan for it.
