5.2.5 4x6

Chosen Brief and Outcome:

Brief - Type Activation

"Take your type specimen or poster from the last module. Move it to screen and investigate how the type’s character changes or expands in a digital environment."

Outcome - Animation

"A pre-rendered, time-based piece that uses motion to communicate. This could be vector animation, cell animation, generative animation, projection- mapped content, or motion graphics. The sequence demonstrates considered use of timing, transition, and visual rhythm."

Project Overview:

Back cover of my type specimen as a poster.

This is my back cover of my type specimen that I created for the 5.1 project and for this case I want to turn it into a poster as I can see ways to animate it. The reason I chose to pair my type specimen with animation is because I feel that a still image or print doesn't showcase the typeface to an audience and animation can in a quick a effective way. I would like to take this into either After Effects/Premiere Pro or possibly use the Jitter plug-in for Figma, I want to use these software's as I feel that I could use them to animate the typeface falling or moving in different directions. I could also take specific elements of the cover to create something different, there are many directions I could take with this idea.

Visual Evidence:

I would start with sketching out my idea in its different animated stages to see how I would want the animation to behave. After identifying how the animate would behave and where it would be placed, I would want to take it into one of my choices of software to create a first draft that would showcase my main idea. Getting multiple variations of would the animation could turn into can help identify where I want to take the animation and bring new ideas to me.

Technical Requirements:

There are a few different skills that are need to create this animation, this could also involve doing tutorials to develop them more if needed. I would use software that I am familiar with however I would also like to try something new and experiment with new software.

Skills:

  • Motion design experience
  • Experience with moving typography and images.
  • Ability to export the animation
  • Text animation

Tools/Software's:

  • After Effects
  • Premiere Pro
  • Jitter plug-in for Figma
  • Sketches of idea in its different animated stages
