2025 Penguin Cover Design Award Winner
The task was to create a new design system for paperbacks that would encapsulate the spirit of Penguin’s founding design principles: “bold, distinctive and mass market”. The challenge was how to make a system that would work across different genres that felt different to Penguin's identity but also still rang true to the company's roots in cover design with the success of the jacket design in the 1930s.
When creating my design concept, I wanted to encapsulate Penguins’ revolutionary design system and keep in line with Penguin’s founding design principles. The coloured strip on the front and back makes reference to the original Penguin genre colour scheme whilst the picture visually symbolises the book's content, adding a modern and contemporary twist.
