identifying workflow enhancements

Clearing my Desktop

One workflow I always stick to is having a tidy desktop. Each individual file, package and screenshot has a specific folder or place on my Mac that it will be saved to. This means when I work, its a tidy space.

However if I'm working on something throughout the day, files and screenshots accumulate if I'm working on a project or research which then need organising before I can finish. Also, if I ever log on to try and complete an un-finished task, if I haven't organised my files it means I have to search for the location of where I saved it to, costing even more time. Identifying a helpful workflow enhancement would improve the efficiency of this task of having to sort through files and save me time.

The organisation 'Hazel' automatically organises whatever folders you tell it to, managing files according to rules that the user creates. Hazel moves and sorts files around based on numerous factors such as name, date, type, what site it came from. Automatically sorting files keeps them off the desktop or any other random location on my laptop and puts them where they belong.

Another thing I have noticed I get irritated by in terms of designing and learning is thinking of questions that I want to ask tutors when I need help, but then by the time I get into the studio, I have forgotten what I wanted to say which is a hindrance in learning because I forget what I want to speak about. Something that would aid me in this area is having a way of dumping my thoughts EASILY so that I remember points to talk about. I could use the notes app across my phone and Mac because there both apple however it doesn't motivate me enough to want to open the app and use it. Finding another tool to do this would be helpful.

The company 'Task Paper' is a plain text to-do list. I like that this doesn’t force you to use a particular system and that it allows for customisation because it makes it more attractive to use. I also like that Task Paper is minimalistic and easy to use which also has importance because the visuals make it enticing to create lists on as its aesthetically more pleasant in comparison to the notes app for example.
