In this workshop with Jon, we were shown how to animate within Photoshop. We were working in the painting workspace to enable to Wacom pen drawing tablets to connect to the screen. It was my first time using a drawing tablet and I really enjoyed it. Although I don't have any illustrative skills, it was fun to experiment with this new tool, and found I actually really like the imperfections that it created.
My animation features a small rocket preparing to take off with sparks at the bottom and then flying into orbit to explode into fireworks. After the fireworks, I tried to morph the words 'bang' into bigger letters to cover the whole screen. At the end, I drew the words 'bang' into letters using such a big brush stroke size that they come across the whole page and blended into man different coloured circles squirming around. Unfortunately, when trying to save and export my animation, Photoshop crashed and didn't manage to recover the end of my animation meaning the shapes didn't feature in the final product, a downside to technology that often occurs.
I enjoyed this workshop as a new found way of design, and learned about various animation companies that use stop motion in their practice such as Gris which is a studio focusing on traditional animation in game designs. In the new year, I think I would like to carry on trying out animation and seeing how I could align this with my interests in graphics such as typography.
