5.2 Raising Neurodiversity Awareness in Public Spaces

Sensory overload awareness

With the project, our goal is to help those who suffer from this condition as well as spread awareness. A sensory overload can be caused by many different factors including, flashing lights, crowded spaces and loud noises, leading to many symptoms that will make the person with this condition feel uncomfortable. With our goal in mind, we have thought of various solutions, by setting up lounges in indoor public spaces such as shopping centres which will offer a variety of support. Some of these include;

•Having a quiet room/space someone with this disorder can go to to feel better and calm down when needed.

• posters, leaflets, TV/screens that spread information about these sensory overload disorders.

•An assistant that will offer help to those with this condition as well as give out related information.

We also have a few ideas that might give aid to those with this condition, such as; Including a foot traffic counter in typically busy places that is easy to view. This will allow those who feel uncomfortable in crowded places to make their decision on whether they want to go to these areas or not.
